Delhi CM Kejriwal flags off fleet of electric auto rickshaws | See PICS

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday flagged off a fleet of electric autorickshaws from the IP depot in the presence of Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot.

Speaking on the occasion, CM said, “As many as 3,500 people will drive these e-autos. Of them, 500 are women drivers. This’ll provide employment to 3,500 people. “People are buying EVs rapidly. 10% of the total vehicles purchased this year were EVs”, Kejriwal added.

Kejriwal took to Twitter and wrote in Hindi which is translated as, “Greetings to the people of Delhi. Electric autos started plying on the roads of Delhi from today. I personally handed over RC to 20 auto drivers. Among them are women drivers too. Very soon, thousands of electric autos will run on the roads of the national capital as we are fighting collectively against pollution.” (sic)

The Delhi government had announced the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy in August 2020 with a vision to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in the city, further making it the EV capital of India. The policy aims to improve Delhi’s air quality by driving the transition to electric vehicles so that they can reach 25 percent of all new vehicle registrations by 2024.
