Best luxury hatchbacks under Rs. 10 lakh that run on CNG

At the moment, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Tata Altroz are the only premium hatchbacks available in India with a CNG drivetrain. All variants of the other models, with the exception of the top-spec XZ+ O (S) variant of the Altroz, are available for less than Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom). In this post, let’s take a close look at each of these hatchbacks.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno

Maruti Suzuki introduced the XL6 CNG and the Baleno CNG to the nation back in October 2022. There are two variants of the hatchback available with CNG, called Zeta and Delta, with prices starting at Rs.9,27,690 and Rs. 8,34,690, respectively (both prices ex-showroom).

It has an analogue instrument cluster with a color TFT display, LED projector headlamps, a rearview camera with parking sensors, USB Type A and Type C ports, and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with wireless mobile connectivity.

The 1.2-liter gasoline engine powering the Baleno CNG is tuned to generate 89 horsepower and 113 Nm
of torque when running on gasoline. The same engine produces 76 horsepower and 98.5 Nm of torque
when operated in CNG mode, and it achieves a fuel efficiency of 30.61 km/kg.

Toyota Glanza

A month following the Baleno CNG’s official debut, Toyota Kirloskar Motor unveiled the Glanza E-CNG,
the CNG version of their single hatchback. The CNG-powered hatchback, which comes in S and G versions, has the same exterior design and underpinnings as the Baleno CNG. When running on compressed natural gas (CNG), the 55-liter Glanza is said to have a fuel efficiency of 30.61 km/kg.

Tata Altroz

The Altroz CNG hatchback, which was just introduced by Tata Motors, is the third vehicle on the list. With this, the company unveiled its twin-cylinder technology, which frees up 210 liters of boot space by placing the CNG tanks underneath the vehicle. There are six different Altroz CNG models available: XE, XM+, XM+ (S), XZ, XZ+ (S), and XZ+ O (S). All other variants, excluding the top-spec XZ+ O (S), are priced under Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Tata 1.2-liter, three-cylinder engine, which produces 88 horsepower and 115 Nm of torque in gasoline mode and 72 horsepower and 103 Nm of torque in CNG mode, powers the Altroz iCNG. This mill has a 60-liter CNG tank capacity and returns an ARAI-certified claimed mileage of 26.2 km/kg
