Think about these three lifestyle pickup trucks in India

Pickup trucks are not as popular in India as they are in the United States or the Middle East, but there is a strong commercial market. However, for those looking for personal-use pickup trucks, the Isuzu V Cross, along with the Tata Xenon, has long been the preferred choice.

With the Xenon no longer in production for personal use, Isuzu was the only option until the Hilux came along. And now there is a new pickup truck that will be released soon, and here are the top three pickups to consider in India

Isuzu V Cross

Beginning with the most affordable offering in India, the V Cross was the segment’s best-seller due to a lack of competition. Owners have used the V Cross for a variety of purposes, including going to malls, hard-core off-roading, and ‘pickup things’ such as carrying loads on the farm.

The Isuzu V Cross is powered by a 1.9-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine that produces 161bhp and 360Nm of torque, mated to either a manual or automatic torque converter gearbox. The V Cross is available in two- and four-wheel-drive configurations, making it suitable for a variety of applications.

Toyota Hilux

The Toyota Hilux requires no introduction; it is sold all over the world and is as rugged as a pickup truck can be. The Hilux was introduced in India in 2022, but sales were briefly halted before being resumed, followed by concerns about the type of registration that can be obtained — private or yellow.

Aside from that, the Toyota Hilux is powered by a 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with 201bhp and 500Nm of torque, which can be paired with either a manual or torque converter automatic transmission. Unlike the V Cross, the Hilux features a standard 4×4 mode.

Mahindra Scorpio X

The Mahindra Getaway returns, this time with the new Scorpio N. Mahindra has already trademarked the name, and the launch is expected this year. The pickup’s concept form, known as the Pik Up, was showcased in South Africa last year.

The Scorpio X could be powered by Mahindra’s 2.2-litre diesel engine tuned to 172bhp and mated to a manual or automatic gearbox. It is unclear whether the four-wheel-drive system will be standard or optional, as with the Isuzu V Cross.
