Popular ⛽ Diesel Suv launching in coming months

Diesel car and SUV sales may be slowing in certain segments in India, but some automakers will continue to offer the option. In fact, despite many manufacturers discontinuing their respective oil-burner offerings, diesel SUVs have managed to more than maintain a toehold. The Hyundai Creta diesel still accounts for 45 percent of total sales of the midsize SUV, and Kia reports that 42 percent of those who booked the Seltos facelift opted for the diesel model. As a result, Hyundai, Mahindra, Tata, and MG Motor India continue to offer diesel options, and these automakers plan to introduce them in the coming months.

Mahindra XUV300 facelift

Mahindra’s monocoque compact SUV is due for a refresh. It will have a number of cosmetic changes to bring it in line with newer Mahindra SUVs, and its cabin will look similar to the recently updated XUV400 EVs. The feature list is also expected to improve significantly, with twin 10.25-inch screens, but the XUV300 facelift will remain mechanically unchanged. While the same 117hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine will be available with manual and automatic transmission, it is unclear whether both the 110hp and 131hp 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engines will be offered.

Tata Curvv

As previously reported, Tata’s upcoming midsize SUV-coupe is expected to have four powertrain options: an EV first, followed by a diesel, then petrol and CNG. The diesel engine in question is the Tata Nexon’s 1.5-litre unit, which is expected to produce the same 115hp and 260Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual will be standard, but an AMT option may also be available.

The Curvv, which will compete with a long list of midsize SUVs from Korea (Creta and Seltos), Europe (Kushaq, Taigun, and Astor), and Japan (Elevate, Grand Vitara, and Hyryder), will be unique in its segment due to its SUV-coupe design. Range-topping models are expected to include all-LED lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, a 360-degree camera, and other features.

Mahindra Thar 5 door

We’ve been reporting for a while that the incoming Thar 5-door will use the same 2.2-litre diesel engine as the 3-door model; the smaller Thar produces 132hp, while the Scorpio N and XUV700 produce 185hp and 175hp, respectively. The engine will be available in 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions, similar to the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine found in the Thar 5-door.

Hyundai Alcazar facelift

Hyundai’s seven-seat Creta derivative will undergo cosmetic changes in the coming months. Styling updates will follow the updated Creta, though some elements will be unique to provide differentiation. The Alcazar facelift’s interior will be similar to the Creta, but with more features. The 116hp, 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine is expected to retain its 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. The 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that debuted on the Alcazar in March of last year will also be available with the refreshed Alcazar.

MG Gloster facelift

The Gloster has been on sale for four years, and a much-needed refresh is expected before the end of the year. The exterior has seen numerous changes, including a new grille and light units, as well as new bumpers and beefier cladding. The Gloster facelift will have more chrome bits than the recently updated LDV D90 SUV, on which it is based, and more features than the current model. The 2.0-liter turbo-diesel engine is expected to remain unchanged; it is paired with an 8-speed automatic and produces 161 horsepower in 2WD form. The same engine powers the Gloster 4WD, producing 216 horsepower.
